Wall Framing Studs Calculator
Studs and plates for a new partition wall. Free to use, with a short guide below.
What this calculator does
Studs and plates for a new partition wall from the length, the stud spacing, the corners and the openings.
How to use it
- Measure the wall length.
- Choose the spacing. 16 in on centre is the usual, and 24 in is used for some non load bearing walls.
- Add the corners and the door or window openings.
Why it matters
Framing is the skeleton of a basement. Straight, evenly spaced studs make drywall go on flat and doors fit. Walls next to a concrete wall need a treated bottom plate and a plan for insulation and wiring, so the layout affects the rest of the job.
Tips from the job site
- Use pressure treated wood where the plate touches concrete.
- Check each stud for a crown and face them all the same way.
- Plan outlets, ducts and doors before you frame.
These results are estimates. We measure on site before we quote, and we confirm local rules with your city.
